- Bernadine Clark, #115
- Eleanor Patterson, #99
- Mary Culbert, #97
My latest batch of research on the class photo from the 1924-1925 class of Westbrook Commercial Academy has resulted in these three young ladies: Mary Culbert (#97), Bernadine Clark (#115), and Eleanor Patterson (#99). We’ll start with Mary, because I know the least about her.
While there are many Mary Culbert’s throughout New York during this time period, only one shows up in Olean or even Cattaraugus County. This lovely Mary appeared in the 1926 Olean City Directory. She was working as a cashier in the local theater. There were no other Culbert’s listed in the directory and no other apparent census record for Mary. I hope a family member finds her here.
Bernadine Clark had a longer document trail. Born about 1908 to Hower J. & Mary Clark, the second oldest child. In 1925, the year of this class photo, Bernadine and family lived in Hinsdale, Cattaraugus County, NY. This seemed to move around some. Portage, NY in 1910, Pennsylvania in 1920, Buffalo, NY in 1930.
Eleanor Patterson had a long life in Olean. She was born to Alonzo and Minerva Patterson about 1907. The family lived in Olean in the 1910, 1915, 1925 and 1930 census! In 1930 Minerva lived with Eleanor and her new husband John Tillow.
I hope these pictures are new and exciting for the families!
